Man looking for "lost dog" was really a burglar, police say

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Pity the poor Pennsylvania man who says he lost his little Pomeranian named Bubba.

Then again, police say 39-year-old Juan Benitez, of Uniontown, doesn't really have a dog -- and when he told them he was looking for Bubba, he was actually prowling around homes he wanted to burglarize.

State police say that when Benitez was questioned about break-ins and such at homes in North Union and South Union, he simply explained that he was trying to find his dog.

But the Uniontown Herald-Standard reports that when police later asked the suspect's wife about his little Pomeranian named Bubba -- well, she told them the dog didn't exist.

A district judge on Monday ordered Benitez to stand trial for a pair of burglaries in February and April, and another attempted break-in.
