Man distracts woman, steals wallet, credit cards, jewelry
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Police in Southern California are searching for a man who is suspected of perpetrating a ruse to steal a wallet, credit cards and jewelry from a woman, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Police say the woman was getting gas in Thousand Oaks when she was approached by the man, who was with a woman and one or more children who appeared to be his family. The man reportedly told the woman he could fix scratches and other minor damage on her car.
At one point, police say, the man asked the woman to give her phone number to his wife, and as she did so, he reached into her car and stole her wallet. The incident, which occurred on June 10, was captured on surveillance video.
The suspect is described as a heavy-set Middle Eastern man, between 35 and 45-years-old. He was driving a black Kia Soul.
