Man crushed to death in compactor at Florida recycling plant

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Officials say a man was crushed to death inside a machine at a central Florida recycling plant.

Winter Garden police Lt. Scott Allen says the man was sorting cardboard with a bailing machine Monday morning when he somehow "ended up inside and got compacted."

Crews were called to the Robert Wallick Associates Inc. recycling company just before 9 a.m. Monday.

Police have not released the man's name, pending notification of his family.

Police told CBS affiliate WKMG that they are investigating whether the man fell or crawled inside. The employee's job was to run the 12-foot-high machine and to clear out any debris, the station reported.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified. Police are investigating the death as an accident.
