Man chased by police escapes into Pittsburgh Zoo

PITTSBURGH -- Police officers chasing a man suspected of stealing a car early Tuesday morning in Pittsburgh lost track of him when he hopped a fence and ran into the city's zoo, reports CBS Pittsburgh.

Officers had briefly pursued the man, who had been driving a Nissan Altima that is believed to be stolen, before he crashed the car near the zoo. He abandoned the car, entered the zoo, and hasn't been seen since, police said.

A police K-9 unit was called and officers, along with zoo staff, searched the area for about two hours, but were unable to find the man.

The zoo is open today.
