Man and baby killed in Minneapolis park shooting, police say

MINNEAPOLIS –  A shooting in south Minneapolis left a man and a baby dead near a popular park, police said Sunday.

CBS Minneapolis reports that police officials say the shooting happened near the intersection of 26th Street East and 11th Avenue South, in the city’s Phillips neighborhood.

A man was found dead at the scene in a parked car across from Stewart Park, along with the baby, who was alive but suffering a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The baby died later at a local hospital.

The newspaper reports that relatives identified the man as 20-year-old Gustav Christianson, and the baby as 8-month-old Jayden Redden, and said the two were not related.

Authorities are slated to give an update on the shooting Sunday afternoon.

Police said it initially appears that this was not a random shooting.
