Mail truck hits grandmother and kids, killing toddler
ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Authorities say a mail truck struck a woman crossing a New Jersey street with two grandchildren, killing a toddler and injuring the others.
Elizabeth officials say the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
The grandmother was crossing the street with her 3-year-old granddaughter in her arms and her 4-year-old grandson by her side when the U.S. postal truck turned the corner and hit them, CBS New York reported.
The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later. The woman suffered serious injuries and the other child was in stable condition, police said. Both are expected to survive.
The names of the woman and the two children have not been released.
The truck driver was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
