School bus accidentally drags 7-year-old

The mother of a Louisville girl who was dragged more than 100 hundred feet by a school bus says her daughter is out of the hospital.

Amy Rednour said that 7-year-old Ally Rednour was discharged from Kosair Children's Hospital on Sunday, CBS affiliate WLKY reports.

The first-grader was pulled by a Jefferson County Public Schools bus on Friday when her backpack got caught in the door.

Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell says the female driver had stopped to let the girl off at her babysitter's house and closed the door on her backpack. The driver did not notice the girl was being dragged until a car behind the bus sped up with its horn blaring, causing the driver to stop.

JCPS said on Monday that the driver has been suspended without pay pending an investigation.

The school district released a statement Monday morning:

"We are very grateful that our student is on the road to full recovery, and we are deeply disturbed by this incident. Immediately after the accident, we began an investigation into how and why this happened. This investigation is currently ongoing, and we will be working with all of our bus drivers to review the policies designed to ensure the safety and security of our students, which is our number one priority at all times."
