LL Cool J on the dramatic season finale of "NCIS: Los Angeles"

LL Cool J opens up on his career and family life

LL Cool J first made a name for himself as a rapper, but in his more than 30-year career, he's also become an accomplished actor, appearing in dozens of TV shows and movies. The Grammy winner joined "CBS This Morning" Friday to talk about his work and the upcoming season finale of "NCIS: Los Angeles," in which he's starred for eight seasons as special agent Sam Hanna.

"CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King told him she's heard, "The finale is the most dramatic thing that's ever been done on TV."

"It is. You know, Sam Hanna, my character — his wife gets kidnapped and then all hell breaks loose. You know, for a procedural, I think Scott Gemmill, the new showrunner, really took the character development and the whole idea of really getting into the stories and the personalities of these characters to another level," LL Cool J said.

When asked if the episode centers on his character's wife's rescue, the actor confirmed that it does, and added, "It's a little more dramatic than you probably expect."

He can still remember clearly the moment he realized he wanted to be a musician, but when asked whether his music has taken a back seat to his acting, he said, "My love for music hasn't taken second place but in terms of just my logistical priorities I'm working on TV and I'm focused on television right now."

Watch "NCIS: Los Angeles" on CBS Sundays at 8 p.m. Eastern.
