Brooklyn mom accused of drowning toddler daughter

NEW YORK -- Police say the mother of a 2-year-old girl who drowned to death at her Brooklyn home has been arrested on a murder charge.

The New York Police Department says 24-year-old Lin Li was also arrested Tuesday on manslaughter and child endangerment charges. It wasn't immediately clear whether she had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.

Earlier Tuesday, the city's medical examiner ruled the death of her daughter, Melody Pheng, was a homicide. Prior to the medical examiner's ruling, the NYPD had said it was investigating the death as a child abuse case, reports CBS New York.

Police say officers found the toddler unconscious and unresponsive at her home in Sunset Park at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The child was taken to Maimonides Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police would not say how the child drowned.
