Lena Dunham on why Trump's election is bad for women

Lena Dunham talked about women’s rights and what the recent election of Donald Trump taught her.

At a panel with Gigi Hadid and others for Reebok’s #PerfectNever campaign, the “Girls” creator and star talked about women’s rights as related to their bodies.

“[You] choose to say this is my body and this is going to be the way I use my body and these are the rights I feel I should be able to have pertaining to the body,” she said.

Dunham alluded to the president-elect as she continued.

“There are a lot of people, we have recently learned, in this country who do not want that for women, and we cannot let those voices enter our heads.”

Dunham was referring to internet trolls who cut down women. She said earlier on the panel of her decision to let someone else manage her Twitter account, “I don’t need to go on Twitter and see a billion dudes telling me to kill myself.”

The writer, who was very vocal about her support for Hillary Clinton, also called the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee her inspiration.

“Someone asked her in an interview, ‘What do you feel about the fact that a lot of millennial women are for you?’ And she said, ‘It doesn’t matter if they’re for me because I’m for them,’ and that’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life, as I will also carry the experience of working on her campaign and galvanizing her cause with so many remarkable women and connecting on hopes and dreams and passions rather than negativity and fear,” said Dunham. “And so I’m really grateful to her and will be for the rest of my life.”
