Lego worker stole toy pieces worth thousands, cops say

GLENDALE, Calif. - A woman is accused of stealing Legos worth thousands of dollars from a mall store where she worked, authorities told CBS Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Lanisa Williams, 29, worked at the Legos Store in Glendale, Calif. and allegedly admitted to taking 254 boxes of the toy in the past year and a half, according to authorities. She was arrested July 23 on charges of grand theft, felony burglary, and embezzlement.

Police say Williams also admitted that she sold the stolen pieces to 30-year-old Kai Chan, who, in turn, allegedly sold the the toys on Craigslist and Ebay.

Upon searching Chan's apartment July 25, police claim to have found around 300 boxes of Legos, some valued at hundreds of dollars.

Tahnee Lightfood, a spokesman for the Glendale police, said an estimated $50,000 in merchandise was recovered from Chan's residence.

He was arrested for receiving stolen property.

Both Williams and Chan are free on $20,000 bail, CBS Los Angeles reports.
