Kyra Sedgwick to star in HBO comedy about an ex-nun

Kyra Sedgwick has a new show in the works -- and she's not only starring in the series, but also behind the camera serving as co-executive producer.

EW reports that "The Closer" star is on board for a new half-hour HBO comedy about an ex-nun named Kate who turns away from the life she's known since she was 17 years old.

According to the site: "No longer 'Sister Katherine,' she's turned her back on her old life and now finds herself coming of age, trying to figure out who she is without her vows and what it means to be an ordinary woman. A person who believes in believing, she'll try to figure out what or whom she'll put her faith in now."

The 49-year-old actress starred in TNT's "The Closer" from 2005-2012.
