Woman accused of killing pedestrian, carjackings denied bond

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A Georgia judge has denied bond for a Texas woman accused of killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision near Atlanta, then carjacking two drivers as she fled 25 miles into the heart of the city.

Kristie Renee Nesby appeared Thursday in Cobb County Magistrate Court. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports a judge ordered her to remain jailed until a hearing May 31.

Nesby is charged with murder and other crimes in a Wednesday roadway spree. Cobb County police officer Alicia Chilton told the paper it began when Nesby robbed a dry cleaning business, but soon escalated after driving into a 75-year-old pedestrian who later died.

Police say that after hitting the pedestrian, Nesby carjacked another vehicle ad headed southbound on Cobb Parkway, reports CBS affiliate WGCL. Officers say she soon ditched that vehicle and carjacked yet another vehicle, heading into Atlanta.

Nesby then allegedly crashed that vehicle into a fence and fled on foot. She was then apprehended by police at a nearby Publix location, according to the station.

Jail records list Nesby's address as Fresno, Texas, near Houston. It wasn't clear whether she has an attorney who could be reached for comment.
