Kit Harington had a really rough night before his "Game of Thrones" audition

The night before Kit Harington auditioned for "Game of Thrones," he had a pretty rough time at a McDonald's -- and that might have actually helped him land the part.

Harington explained in a video for W magazine that the night before his big first meeting about playing Jon Snow on the HBO series, he was out with a girl and stopped at a McDonald's, where they ended up sharing a table with another couple of patrons -- one of whom got fresh with Harington's companion.

"He called her something like an ugly pig or something worse," Harington said. "I got up and said: 'No, no, no, you can't, you can't call her that, get up.'"

"So I called him up for a fight, which I'd never done before," Harington said. "And of course he'd been sat down the whole time, and he got up and he just ... kept going. And I just realized at that point that I had to throw the first punch otherwise I'd look like a complete wimp."

Needless to say, the fight didn't exactly go Harington's way.

"I got battered," Harington said. "So then I went to the Jon Snow audition with a black eye -- which I think that man who punched me in the face may have helped me get the job, so if you're watching, thank you."
