Ohio man pleads not guilty in officer's fatal pub shooting

AKRON, Ohio - A man suspected of fatally shooting an off-duty police officer at an Ohio pub and injuring four other people has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and assault charges.

An attorney entered the plea for 35-year-old Kenan Ivery of Akron on Tuesday in Akron Municipal Court. He's charged with one count of aggravated murder and five counts of felonious assault with a weapon.

Police say Ivery was asked to leave the Akron pub after being unruly and returned early Sunday with a gun. Police say a 32-year-old officer, Justin Winebrenner, intervened and was shot.

No bond was set for Ivery. His next hearing is Dec. 3.

A message seeking comment was left for his attorney.

A second off-duty officer was grazed by a bullet, and three more people were hospitalized.
