Kanye West at VMAs: "I have decided in 2020 to run for president"

We had a hunch that Kanye West would talk about himself in a long, rambling speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, but what we didn't expect was this proclamation: "I have decided in 2020 to run for president."

Wait, really?!

West made the announcement at the tail end of his Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

His speech was chock-full of other good nuggets, too.

He's still upset Justin Timberlake didn't win album of the year for "FutureSex/LoveSound" in 2007.

West also apologized to Taylor Swift for taking her microphone at the 2009 VMAs, adding, "I still don't understand award shows. I don't understand how they get five people who work their entire life to come, stand on a carpet, and for the first time in their life, stand up on a chopping block and be considered a loser. I don't understand it, bro! I've been conflicted, bro! I just wanted people to like me more!"

"This arena tomorrow is gonna be a completely different setup, this stage will be gone. After that night, the stage was gone, but the effect that it had on people remained," West said of running onstage during Swift's speech at the 2009 VMAs. "The problem was the contradiction. The contradiction is I do fight for artists, but in that fight I somehow was disrespectful to artists. I didn't know how to say the right thing, the perfect thing."

He also talked about fatherhood as his pregnant wife Kim Kardashian watched from the audience. And he admitted to getting high before the show.

"Y'all might be thinking right now, 'I wonder did he smoke something before he came out here?' And the answer is yes, I rolled up a little something, I knocked the edge off," he said.

Swift presented West with the honor on Sunday. So we guess they're really friends now. No hard feelings there.
