Justin Bieber pleads guilty to assault, dangerous driving in Ontario court
Justin Bieber plead guilty to assault and dangerous driving charges in Stratford, Ontario, court on Thursday.
According to Reuters, the 21-year-old Canadian pop star appeared via a video link from Los Angeles on Thursday. The court ordered Bieber to pay a $750 fine for reckless driving. He was cleared of the assault charges, with an "absolute discharge."
The charges stemmed from an August 2014 incident when he was arrested after his ATV collided with a minivan, allegedly carrying paparazzi. Bieber was on a weekend retreat with his then-girlfriend Selena Gomez, near his hometown of Stratford, Ontario.
Bieber was taken into custody for what appeared to be a heated physical altercation between the singer and a minivan occupant, whose identity was protected by Los Angeles-based attorney Gloria Allred, Ontario Provincial Police reported.
Bieber's lawyer, Brian Greenspan, said the discharge for the assault "recognized the fact that it was an incident that was somewhat provoked and that it lasted less than a minute."
Bieber's driving and arrest history has had some other bumps. In August, he pleaded guilty to careless driving and resisting arrest, without violence, in a Miami DUI case. He was ordered to make a charitable donation and enroll in anger management classes.
