Van der Sloot transferred after prison warden death threat

LIMA, Peru--Dutch murder convict Joran van der Sloot has been moved to a remote Peruvian penitentiary after authorities said he threatened to kill the warden of his prison, his lawyer confirmed on Monday.

Van der Sloot is serving a 28-year term for the murder of 21-year-old Peruvian business student Stephany Flores in 2010.

He had been serving his sentence at Piedras Gordas prison, north of the capital Lima, when he threatened the warden after prison guards confiscated his mobile phone, the Associated Press reports.

His lawyer, Maximo Altez, said on Monday he has now been transferred to Challapalca prison, located high in the Andes near the Bolivian border

"We are making it known that Joran van der Sloot has had a problem with the director of the prison (the warden of Piedras Gordas), he (Van der Sloot) even recorded a video to prove it," Altez said.

Van der Sloot is also the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of US teenager Natalee Holloway.

He married his pregnant Peruvian girlfriend in a prison ceremony last month.
