Johnny Depp called most overpaid actor in Hollywood

Now, here's a role no actor wants, but someone has to take the title; Johnny Depp has been named the most overpaid actor of 2015 by Forbes. He's had a bad year.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star's recent movies made only $1.20 for every $1 he was paid on them, reports Forbes. That's even worse than Denzel Washington, whose films returned $6.50 for every $1 he was paid on them. Forbes determined its rankings by looking at the last three films made by each actor before June 2015.

Depp's movies "Mortdecai" and "Transcendence" flopped though he got paid millions, and he's not the only actor with a big paycheck that doesn't translate to good box office numbers.

Will Ferrell also brought little return for his salary; the funnyman brought in just $6.80 for every $1 he was paid. Liam Neeson and Will Smith also raked in less than $9 for every dollar of their paychecks.

But $7 for every $1 paid doesn't seem so bad, does it? That's until you see the numbers of Chris Evans, this year's Best Actor for the Buck, according to Forbes. He has a $181.80 return every $1 paid, which means you get 150 times more return out of Evans than you do from Depp.

But Depp can chin up for a couple of reasons: In 2016 and 2017, he has highly anticipated sequels to look forward to, like "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." The second reason? The most overpaid actor for the past two years, Adam Sandler, simply wasn't eligible this year because he hadn't made a wide cinematic release film during Forbes' time frame, so he may take the crown the next year.
