Jeb Bush targets Hillary Clinton over foreign policy

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush targeted Hillary Clinton's record as secretary of state on Monday, offering a preview of the foreign policy battle that could ensue if both Clinton and Bush become the presidential nominees of their respective parties in 2016.

"I think she can't do the Heisman on the first four years of the Obama foreign policy. She'll try," said Bush during an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

"This is very Clintonian, I think, to figure out a way to get out of a mess," Bush added. "But she was secretary of state of the first administration. And while some of this disruption and then all the stuff playing out right now didn't exist in the first four years, its roots were there. The pullback began then. The reset with Russia, the discussions with Syria, the red line, all these things created the beginnings of what we're now seeing."

Bush also said Clinton won't be able to dodge inquiries into her use of a private email server as secretary of state. He suggested the chairman of the House Select Committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attack, who's demanded Clinton turn over her email server, won't rest until his questions are answered.

"I put my money on Trey Gowdy, for starters," Bush said. "That guy is a superstar. He respects the rule of law. He'll be a gentleman about it, but he's not going to give up on this notion that she needs to come clean with what she knows about that information and other things for sure."

Neither Bush nor Clinton have formally declared a presidential bid, but both are gearing up for a run. Clinton is the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nod, and while Bush is considered an early frontrunner among the GOP establishment, he faces a more competitive primary field.
