Jay Z signs two-year TV and film production deal with Weinstein Co.

Jay Z has his sights set on film and TV.

The rapper, producer and Tidal boss has inked a two-year deal to produce television and film projects with the Weinstein Company, it was announced Thursday. Several projects are already in the works, with specific announcements expected soon.

“I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” Jay Z said in the statement. “I’m already passionate about what we currently have in the pipeline, and I’m looking forward to discovering others.”

Jay Z was credited as an executive producer on Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby,” a co-producer on “Top Five” -- written and directed by and starring Chris Rock -- and a producer on the 2014 remake of “Annie” starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx.
