Jay Leno lining up primetime show on CNBC

Jay Leno is returning to television.

The comedian and talk show host is closing in on his first regular hosting job since passing the "Tonight Show" torch to Jimmy Fallon in February. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, he'll be staying in the NBC Universal family, as the show will air on CNBC.

It will center on Leno's love of cars and will be a primetime show, not a late night gig.

Sources say Leno, 64, was contacted by several networks -- including CNN, A&E, History and the Tribune --for the program, but he wanted to stay loyal to NBC. He purportedly has a strong relationship with CNBC president Mark Hoffman, and the outlet aired a "Jay's Garage" special over Labor Day weekend called "Jay's Garage: The Ultimate Car Week."

There is no premiere date set for Leno's show at this time.

Though CNBC has not commented on the development, NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said in July 2013, "Nothing would make us happier than for him, a la Bob Hope, to still be a presence on the network."
