Jake Gyllenhaal steps into the ring in "Southpaw" trailer

Jake Gyllenhaal is stepping into the ring in the first trailer for the upcoming boxing drama "Southpaw."

The actor transformed his body -- bulking up his frame after playing the gaunt Leo Bloom in last year's "Nightcrawler" -- to play champion prize fighter Billy Hope, who loses everything in the wake of personal tragedy and has to fight to get his life and career back on track.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day"), the film -- which features new music from Eminem -- also stars Rachel McAdams as Hope's wife and Forest Whitaker as a trainer who helps him stage a comeback. "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter and Richard Wenk wrote the screenplay.
