J. Crew to end on-call scheduling for workers in N.Y.

ALBANY, N.Y. - New York's attorney general says J. Crew has agreed to end on-call scheduling at stores nationwide.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Friday the retailer will provide scheduling a week in advance.

In April, Schneiderman's office wrote to 13 retailers questioning the practice of keeping workers on call for shifts on short notice.

His office also cited possible violations of New York's requirement to pay hourly staff for at least four hours when they report for work.

In a letter, J. Crew says on-call shifts helped deal with unexpected staff absences, but it ended them this month and will fill needed slots on a voluntary basis.

It follows agreements with Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch and Gap Inc. and Urban Outfitters.
