Is your vehicle affected by GM's big recall?

General Motors (GM) on Friday announced that it is recalling 3.6 million vehicles in the U.S. because of a software problem that can prevent front air bags from inflating in a crash. 

The defect, which may also impair a vehicle’s seat belts normal functioning, has been linked to one death and several injuries. Following are the vehicles and model years affected by the recall:

  • Buick Encore 2014-2017
  • Buick LaCrosse 2014-2016
  • Cadillac Escalade 2015-2017
  • Cadillac Escalade ESV 2015-2017
  • Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit 2014-2017
  • Chevrolet Corvette 2014-2017
  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2014-2017
  • Chevrolet Silverado 2500 2015-2017
  • Chevrolet Silverado 3500 2015-2017
  • Chevrolet Spark EV 2014-2016
  • Chevrolet SS 2014-2016
  • Chevrolet Tahoe 2015-2017  
  • Chevrolet Trax 2014-2017   
  • Chevrolet Suburban 2015-2017
  • GMC Sierra 1500 2014-2017
  • GMC Sierra 2500 2015-2017
  • GMC Sierra 3500 2015-2017
  • GMC Yukon 2015-2017
  • GMC Yukon XL 2015-2017 

Owners can contact Buick customer service at (800) 521-7300; Cadillac customer service at (800) 458-8006; Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020; and GMC customer service at (800) 462-8782. GM’s case number for the recall is 16007.  

Customers can also look up their vehicle identification number at either GM websites or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to see if their vehicle is part of the recall. NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline is (888) 327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
