Is Katy Perry gearing up to roar on the field?

Maybe so -- the 29-year-old pop star has been tapped to play the upcoming Super Bowl halftime, reports Billboard.

The NFL has yet to confirm the news, but Perry's name has been floating around for a while. Coldplay and Rihanna's names were tossed around, too.

There had been reports that the NFL had been mulling the idea of having acts shell out money to play the big game considering the publicity and exposure that comes with it. But during a recent visit to ESPN's College Game Day Perry said, "I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."

Recent Super Bowl performers have included Bruno Mars, Beyonce and Madonna.

Super Bowl XLIX airs Feb. 1 on NBC.
