Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad taken to hospital after collapse

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad was transported to the hospital after falling ill during an event Monday.

"Gov. Branstad fell ill at an event today at DuPont Pioneer. An ambulance was called and he was transported to Methodist hospital in Des Moines. The governor was conscious and alert during the transport to the hospital. The governor had been suffering from the effects of a cold for a couple of days," his office said in a statement.

Local news outlets reported that Branstad collapsed while touring the facility. The Des Moines Register wrote that one of their reporters asked Branstad if he had the flu during a press conference earlier in the day, to which Branstad said he's been suffering the effects of a cold he's had over the past couple of weeks.
