Riot hits Missouri jail, authorities say

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Johnson County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office says inmates rioted Thursday night in one of the pods in the county jail, reports CBS Kansas City, Missouri affiliate KCTV.

Neighboring counties were called to assist, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

As of 12:15 a.m. on Friday, the sheriff’s office said the riot had been “resolved.”

There were no injuries reported to any staff members or inmates. 

“We would like to thank all law enforcement agencies who assisted with this incident tonight,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The work that these men and women endure to keep our communities safe is top notch.”

The riot was reported shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday.

There was no early word on the reason for the violence.
