Infant killed during domestic dispute, father charged, say Ohio cops
CANTON, Ohio -- Police are investigating after an infant died from injuries sustained during a domestic dispute between his parents, reports CBS affiliate WOIO.
On Tuesday around 2 a.m., police responded to Akron Children's Hospital after a child suffered a serious head injury. Detectives later learned that the almost 2-month-old infant had been hit in the head with a ceramic mug that had been thrown during an argument between the father and his girlfriend, according to the station.
The baby boy was pronounced dead at the hospital around 11:30 a.m. The child's father, Anthony Benjamin Grove, was then arrested.
Grove, 34, was charged with murder, child endangering and domestic violence. An outstanding warrant was also served for failure to appear for arraignment in a theft case, reports WOIO.
Neighbors told the station that Grove fought with his girlfriend frequently, adding that he had anger issues, often becoming violent when drunk.
"He loved that baby. He was crazy about that baby. I can promise you that," neighbor Edwin Davis told WOIO.
The suspect is reportedly being held on $2 million bond at the Stark County Jail.
