Indianapolis police fatally shoot 15-year-old Andre Green

INDIANAPOLIS - Police in Indianapolis shot and killed a 15-year-old boy Sunday night, reports CBS affiliate WTTV.

Police say 15-year-old Andre Green evaded a traffic stop at around 11:15 p.m. Sunday, and accelerated toward officers, while driving a car that matched the description of one that had been reported carjacked. Green allegedly refused officers' commands to exit the car, and police say they fired on Green when he accelerated.

Police say Green was holding a firearm when he got out of the car and collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Lt. Rick Riddle said officers recovered a firearm but released no details about it, including whether it was loaded. He said police tried to pull the car over and Green tried to make a U-turn, striking the side of a police car.

Multiple passengers got out of the vehicle and ran away without being apprehended, according to police.

There is not currently an active search for the other passengers, police said.

The officer who shot Green will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
