Catholic bishop admonishes students for pro-Trump chants

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - The Catholic bishop in northern Indiana has denounced students who waved a picture of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump and shouted "build a wall" at opponents during a basketball game.

Diocese of Gary Bishop Donald J. Hying on Monday said students from Andrean High School in Merrillville shouted at students from Bishop Noll Institute, a heavily Hispanic school, on Friday evening. Both are Catholic high schools. The (Munster) Times reportsthat the Bishop Noll students shouted back, "You're a racist."

The bishop says the incident is under investigation and "is not to be tolerated." Andrean officials said the school was taking steps to remind students of "responsibility, acceptance and sportsmanship."

A similar event happened at a high school in Iowa last week.
