Ian Ziering, Tara Reid to reprise roles in third "Sharknado"

At this point it wouldn't be a real Sharknado without the chainsaw-wielding Ian Ziering, right?

On Thursday, Syfy announced that the actor will return as surfer-turned-shark-hunter Fin Shepard in the third installment of "Sharknado." Actress Tara Reid will be back, too, playing his ex-wife April Wexler.

The upcoming "Sharknado" film will take place along the East Coast -- from Washington, D.C., down to Florida. Syfy recently hosted on online content asking fans to help officially name "Sharknado 3." The network did the same thing with the second installment, which ended up being called "Sharknado 2: The Second One."

Ian Ziering says more "Sharknado" sequels coming

"Sharknado 2" featured cameos from Kelly Osbourne, Matt Lauer, Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Judah Friedlander, Andy Dick, Kelly Osbourne, Judd Hirsch and Billy Ray Cyrus.

The first film took place in Los Angeles, and the follow-up was set in New York.

The made-for-TV movie is a big hit for Syfy, becoming the network's most-watched original movie ever with 3.9 million total viewers last summer.

Ziering told CBS News last year, "I was talking to Dave Howe, president of Syfy, and he was like, 'This could be a summer event for us. This could be 4, 5, 6 movies.' -- I'm just enjoying what's happening right now. It's really just amazing."
