Caught on camera: Hungarian journalist trips migrants

Journalist fired for tripping refugees

A Hungarian news channel says it has fired one of its camerawomen after she was caught on camera by another journalist tripping refugees fleeing from police at a collection point in Hungary.

The camerawoman has been identified by local media as Petra Laszlo, who works for Nemzeti Televizio N1TV in Hungary.

N1Tv released a statement on their Facebook page on Tuesday saying one of their colleagues behaved unacceptably and their relationship was terminated.

The message was originally posted in Hungarian and N1TV did not identify Laszlo in the post.

Journalist Stephan Richter posted a video to his Twitter page on Tuesday that shows one of the tripping incidents that occurred in Roszke village near Hungary's southern border.

In the midst of the chaos of migrants trying to escape, police try to grab one of refugees who is holding a child in his arms as he runs.

Laszlo is seen in the video wearing jeans, sneakers and a face mask and holding a camera. She sticks out her leg in front of the man as he runs, tripping him. The man and child tumble to the ground.

In a later tweet, Richter clarified that he did not know the journalist who he filmed tripping the refugee.

In another video, posted by the Hungarian news agency Index, Laszlo can be seen in a separate incident kicking two migrants, one a male and the other a young female, as they run from police. The kicking occurs about 40 seconds into the video.

N1TV used what appears to be Laszlo's footage, in a video they posted to YouTube. But the kicking incident appears to have been cut out.
