Houston student shot to death in high school parking lot

HOUSTON -- A Houston student was shot to death Monday in the parking lot of his high school, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.

The student at Houston Can Academy was in a pickup truck with another student in the school’s parking lot Monday afternoon when they were approached by as many as four men in a gray SUV. Police say the occupants of the SUV got into an argument with the students in the pickup, then got out of the SUV and opened fire.

The pickup drove away and stopped at an urgent care facility. The student riding in the passenger seat was pronounced dead, the station reports, and the driver was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

KHOU reports police believe the occupants of the SUV were not CAN Academy students. The principal tells the station the shooting was an “isolated incident” the happened outside of the classroom.

The school is described as a dropout recovery program for high school students with multiple campuses.
