Houston officials: Toddler found in hot car dies

HOUSTON -- A three-year-old boy died after he was found in a hot car in Houston on Thursday, CBS affiliate KHOU reported.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene around 2 p.m. Temperatures had soared into the upper 90s and the city was under a heat advisory. The child suffered cardiac arrest and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Houston Police homicide detectives are reportedly investigating. It wasn't immediately clear how the child got into the vehicle, which was parked in a front yard.

The station reports the child's mother was with him at the hospital, and the boy's father was being interviewed by authorities.
