Texas children, allegedly kidnapped by grandma, found safe

HOUSTON -- After parents accused a maternal grandmother of kidnapping their two children Wednesday, the siblings were found safe early Thursday, according to CBS affiliate KHOU.

The Amber Alert issued was for Jordan Avila, 4, and his sister Leah Wednesday afternoon after police believed that the children were in danger. The police cancelled the alert after they were safely located, telling the station they had one of the suspects already in custody.

Family members told the Houston Police Department that Jordan and Leah had been taken from their front yard Wednesday morning. The police had initially identified the suspects as grandmother Rose Mary Garcia -- along with two others, Andrea Alarcon and Lukel Evans.

On Wednesday, mother Crystal Avila told reporters that her own mother was "crazy," pleading for their safe return outside her mother-in-law's home in north Houston, according to KHOU.

"I haven't had a problem with her lately," Avila told the station. "I haven't talked to her in five months. She went missing and then she just showed up out of nowhere today taking my children."

Police have not said where the kids were found or which suspect was in custody, according to KHOU.
