Hillary Clinton raises $55 million in fourth-quarter fundraising

Hillary Clinton hauled in a fundraising total of $55 million during the fourth quarter of 2015, Clinton's campaign announced Friday.

The Democratic front-runner drew in $37 million specifically for her primary campaign. She also raised $18 million for the Hillary Victory Fund, which goes to support the Democratic National Committee as well as state Democratic parties.

"Thanks to the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have joined together and powered this historic campaign, we are now heading into Iowa and New Hampshire with the resources we need to be successful," Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement.

Could Clinton capitalize on Trump's crude remarks?

In 2015, Clinton set a goal to raise at least $100 million by the end of December -- a benchmark the campaign says it has surpassed, hauling in more than $112 million in primary money for the year.

It was "a new record for the best off-year fundraising of any non-incumbent in history," the campaign said, and pointed out that heading into 2016, it has nearly $38 million cash-on-hand.

Ninety-four percent of fourth quarter donations to Hillary For America were in increments of $100 or less, according to the campaign. About 60 percent of the campaign donors for the entire year were women.

The 2016 hopeful is the only Democratic candidate yet to reveal her haul for the months of October through December. Republican presidential candidates Ben Carson and Ted Cruz have also released their fourth quarter numbers, reporting totals of $23 million and $20 million respectively.

Clinton's fundraising numbers are still only an estimate. Final reports are due to the Federal Election Commission in January.
