Hiker, 75, found dead in Mount Rainier National Park, officials say

MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, Wash -- A 75-year-old hiker has been found dead near Mount Rainier National Park's Eagle Peak Trail.

The Seattle Times reports the man's body was found Thursday in a rockfall area by a helicopter crew after he had been reported missing.

Park spokeswoman Patti Wold says it wasn't clear if he fell or was struck by rocks from above. Witnesses told CBS affiliate KIRO-TV rocks were seen falling in the area.

Wold says the man had separated from his group of four and was traveling off-trail.

The Eagle Peak Trail gives access to the Tatoosh Range, a popular hiking and climbing area within the park.
