Hear Lorde's single for the new "Hunger Games" soundtrack

Lorde has unleashed the first single on the "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 1" soundtrack. The song, called "Yellow Flicker Beat," can be heard below.

The track starts slow with a stripped-down verse before bursting into its sinister chorus. It suits both the film's characters and Lorde's own gothic persona.

The 17-year-old New Zealand songstress described the song on Tumblr: "It's my first offering from what I hope will be a soundtrack you love. It's my attempt at getting inside her head, Katniss'. I hope you like it," she wrote.

Lorde was asked to compile the film's soundtrack in July. She'll be choosing the rest of the soundtrack songs as well.

The "Royals" singer did a version of Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" for the "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack in 2013.

The third film in the series, "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 1," hits theaters Nov. 21.

Tell us: What do you think of "Yellow Flicker Beat"? Does the track warrant repeated listen, or is it one you'll forget about until you see the film?
