Big development in Hannah Graham case

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- New information is coming in the case of the man linked to two Virginia college students who disappeared and were later found dead.

The police chief and the prosecutor in Albemarle County scheduled a late-morning news conference Tuesday to provide an update in the investigation of Jesse Matthew Jr.

Officials said in their announcement that they would not answer questions before the briefing, but sources told CBS affiliate WTVR in Charlottesville that they would announce a first-degree murder charge against Matthew in the death of 18-year-old Hannah Graham.

Matthew has already been charged with abduction with intent to defile in the case of Graham, a University of Virginia student who disappeared in September and was found dead in Albemarle County a few weeks later.

Matthew is incarcerated in Fairfax County, north of Charlottesville, where he is facing attempted murder, rape, and sexual assault charges in a separate case from 2005, reported WTVR, adding that he was expected to remain jailed in Fairfax until his next court appearance on March 9.

Police have said forensic evidence also links Matthew to the 2009 disappearance and death of 20-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, whose body also was found in the county.
