Handcuffed suspect steals police car

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A handcuffed man who allegedly stole a police car in Alabama has been arrested...again.

CBS affiliate WIAT reports Birmingham officers got a call about a burglary in progress Sunday. Officers arrested the suspect, put him in handcuffs with his hands behind his back, and placed him in the back of a police car.

Officer Scott Thurmond says the suspect managed to get those handcuffs in front of him and drive away.

Police say the slippery suspect drove less than a mile before ditching the vehicle. Officers were then able to take him back into custody just a block away.

Still in handcuffs.

The suspect's name has yet to be released, according to the station.
