"Hamilton" receives RIAA Gold Award

Lin-Manuel Miranda has had quite a day.

First, the composer and star of "Hamilton," who currently has laryngitis, had a back-and-forth with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Wednesday was the day the "Hamilton" live lottery reopened for $10 tickets, and de Blasio pleaded with Miranda to show up in spite of his sickness. The mayor even brought tea for Miranda.

Later, the cast of "Hamilton" received a momentous honor: They won an RIAA Gold Album Award for their original cast recording album.

In order to qualify for an RIAA Gold Album Award, the album must sell more than 500,000 copies. Questlove posted photos of Miranda receiving the award and wrote on Twitter and Instagram, "The moment the cast of @hamiltonmusical gets their gold plaques from the @RIAA committee. Man... I need to read more books on vacation huh? #Hamilton @hamiltonmusical #LinManuelMiranda."

Manuel retweeted Questlove and said, "This happened before tonight's show. Thanks @AtlanticRecords. Thanks @RiggdUp @bsherman2222 @LacketyLac We gold."
