"Guardians of the Galaxy" extended trailer brings laughs and blasts

The Guardians of the Galaxy are getting closer to Earth.

An extended trailer for the upcoming superhero flick was released Tuesday, in anticipation for what could be one of this summer's biggest blockbusters.

Based on the Marvel comic book series and set in the same universe as the "Avengers" films, Chris Pratt plays Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, the leader of a rag-tag group of intergalactic misfits who band together to protect humanity. Zoe Saldana co-stars, while Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel lend their voices to CGI-created characters.

Set to the tune of The Runaways classic "Cherry Bomb," the new two-and-a-half minute clip introduces "Walking Dead" star Michael Rooker as Yondu, one of the original members of the Guardians.

Check out Rooker's blue skin below in the extended trailer.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" blasts into theaters on Aug. 1.
