"Grace of Monaco" to open 2014 Cannes Film Festival

"Grace of Monaco" has been chosen to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival, it was announced Friday.

The film, starring Nicole Kidman as the Hollywood star-turned-princess, will have its world premiere out of competition at the French festival when it kicks off on May 14.

The news comes a day after the biopic's arrival in theaters appears to have been delayed indefinitely. The Weinstein Company has pulled the film from its March release date without a new one in place.

"Grace of Monaco" was originally supposed to open on Nov. 27, 2013, but in September that date was pushed to March 14, reportedly because the biopic about the movie star-turned-princess would not be ready in time.

No reason was given for the why it was delayed again, but director Olivier Dahan has clashed publicly with The Weinstein Company over the film. In October, he told a French newspaper that he and the production company wanted different cuts of the film released.

The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 14-25, with director Jane Campion heading this year's jury.
