Gift guide: 5 smart devices for the tech-lover who has everything

CNET gift guide: Smart devices for home and car

From a portable charger powerful enough to jumpstart your car to a gadget that will play fetch with your dog, CNET's Sumi Das found five unique gift ideas for the early adopter in your life.

Can of juice
The Bolt Power D28 portable jump starter ($85) can recharge a dead phone battery -- or a dead car battery. The gadget has a 400-amp output, which is enough to revive your car, or charge an iPhone 5S six times.

A never-ending game of fetch
The iFetch ($100) never gets tired of the classic game. The ball machine shoots throw after throw for as long as your pooch wants to play, so you can give your pitching arm a rest and take a break from slobbery projectiles. It may take some time to train your dog to drop retrieved balls back into the machine, but once that trick is taught, it's fetch to your dog's heart's content. The 1.5-inch balls are meant for small or medium dogs.

Souped-up Swiss Army knife
Emergency preparedness is a gift that anyone could use. The Champ Survival Sidekick ($50) is ten tools in one, including a distress light, seatbelt cutter, compass and a radio that lets you tune into weather alerts.

A homing device for your home
Tile sensors ($70 for a pack of four) stick onto anything you don't want to lose -- your purse, your tablet, your keys -- to help you locate them when they're missing or misplaced. The smartphone app tracks the object's location within a 100-foot range.

Killer keyboard
The Logitech K480 multi-device keyboard ($50) makes typing easier, whether you're using a smartphone, tablet or computer. The wireless keyboard pairs with up to three Bluetooth-enabled devices at one time. Just turn the dial to select which one you'd like to type on.
