Gerard Depardieu says he can drink "12, 13, 14 bottles" of wine a day

You might want to avoid ever getting into a drinking contest with Gerard Depardieu.

The French-born actor said in a recent interview that he drinks at least 12 bottles of wine every day without feeling drunk.

Depardieu, 65, suffered a heart attack in 2000 and he has had to have bypass surgery on at least five occasions, but he says that doesn't stop him from sipping on vino in copious amounts.

"I can't drink like a normal person," Depardieu revealed to So Film U.K. "I can absorb 12, 13, 14 bottles [of wine]...per day. But I'm never totally drunk, just a little pissed."

The actor also disclosed his secret to sobering up quickly.

"All you need is a 10-minute nap and voilà, a slurp of rosé wine and I feel as fresh as a daisy," said Depardieu.

He says that his doctors often worry when he reveals his drinking habits to them.

Depardieu received a best actor Oscar nomination in 1991 for his turn in "Cyrano de Bergerac." He is best known to English-speaking audiences for his performances in 1990's "Green Card" and 2012's "Life of Pi."

In 2013, Depardieu attracted headlines when he renounced his French citizenship and officially became a Russian citizen.

Depardieu is currently starring in the new film "Welcome to New York," as a character largely inspired by former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
