"Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin joins Twitter

George R.R. Martin, the man behind the books that inspired HBO's "Game of Thrones," has a new writing project -- one of the 140-character variety.

The author has joined Twitter, and started things off by sending fans a message on Monday. (Don't worry, it's spoiler-free.)

So far, that's Martin's only tweet (the LiveJournal page he mentions is here.). Fans may be happy to hear he doesn't plan to tweet that much -- if only because they're hoping he's working on finishing the sixth book in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series instead.
