Funeral held for Texas teen shot by girlfriend's dad

SPRING, Texas -- Friends and family said their final goodbyes to a teen who was fatally shot in his girlfriend's bedroom last week, CBS affiliate KHOU reported.

Funeral services for 17-year-old Johran McCormick were held Sunday afternoon in Spring, outside Houston.

"Honestly I don't think it hit a lot of us yet that this is the reality of the situation," cousin Khiron Woods told KHOU. "Anytime I talk about him I have to smile. Anytime anybody talks about him, anytime somebody has some sort of memory with him, it's positive."

Friends wore bow ties to the funeral, a style that McCormick liked.

McCormick was shot in the head inside a Spring-area home last week, Harris County deputies said.

Investigators said the man accused in the shooting was awakened by his young son, who reported that there was an intruder in the house.

The man found McCormick in his 16-year-old daughter's bedroom. According to detectives, the man's daughter had let McCormick in the house and sneaked him into her bedroom.

The father began asking questions, but his daughter claimed to not know McCormick. The father then called 911, but an argument ensued with the teenage boy.

The father told deputies that McCormick dropped his hands as if to grab something, so the man opened fire. The teen died at the scene, deputies said.

Investigators said they will present their findings to a Harris County grand jury, which will decide whether the father will be charged.
