Former boxing champ Evander Holyfield to take on...Mitt Romney?
Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is stepping into the ring again.
No, he's not running for president -- instead, he'll take on former heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield in a sparring match to raise money for the humanitarian organization CharityVision.
It's likely to be an unfair fight: 68-year-old Romney is a boxing novice, and 52-year-old Holyfield is a five-time world heavyweight champion. (Those who don't follow boxing might still remember Holyfield as the guy who lost part of his ear to Mike Tyson's teeth in a 1997 bout.)
The two will square off at the black-tie event on May 15 in Salt Lake City.
"It will either be a very short fight, or I will be knocked unconscious," Romney told the Salt Lake Tribune in an interview. "It won't be much of a fight. We'll both suit up and get in the ring and spar around a little bit."
Organizers are hoping to attract corporate sponsors to the match, netting as much as $250,000 per sponsor, according to the Tribune. And they're promising some real boxing in addition to the sparring match between Romney and Holyfield.
"There will be bouts between real, active professional prize fighters," Romney said. "We just thought it would be a lot better to provide this kind of entertainment rather than just have dinner and listen to speakers."
