Ford aims to debut self-driving cars in 2020

Ford to begin manufacturing self-driving cars

A future where self-driving cars are common on America's roadways is coming closer than many previously thought. Ford says it plans to start manufacturing self-driving cars that could be ready for the market by 2020.

"Ford's CEO is very confident and says they are actually testing self-driving cars now," CNET associate editor Dan Graziano told CBS News.

Graziano said that while tech companies like Google often speed by the competition when it comes to this kind of innovation, Ford has been "very aggressive" in pushing these cars into the fast lane.

"I love when tech is innovating," Graziano said. "It could actually be safer to be in a self-driving car than having you or me behind the wheel."
